Former National Assembly lawmaker Shehu Sani has reacted to the Federal Government’s decision to postpone the Abuja-Kaduna train service, which was scheduled to begin on November 28.

The Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Sambo, announced the postponement of the resumption date while inspecting the axis’s readiness to operate.

The decision comes after the minister and other stakeholders travelled to the Rigasa station ahead of schedule for an inspection.

According to Sambo, the team made certain observations and decided to halt immediate operations to compromise standards at the expense of Nigerian security.

Sani responded to the news on his verified Twitter account, saying that the resumption of Kaduna-Abuja train services should not be done for political reasons.

According to the former lawmaker, adequate security arrangements should be in place to protect the lives of passengers and railway employees.

As a result, he urged that safety, rather than politics, be prioritized.

He wrote:

The resumption of the Kaduna Abuja Train services should not be done for political reasons or for campaigns. There should be adequate security arrangements that will secure the lives of passengers and Railway staff. Security and safety first and not politics.

On March 29, the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) suspended operations after terrorists attacked an inbound Kaduna-Abuja train late at night.

During the meeting, nine people were killed, 26 were injured, and 62 people were abducted.
