According to rumors circulating, criminal elements are on the loose in the nation’s capital, but this has been refuted by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command.

In a statement released on Wednesday, DSP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, expressed her opinion that the report was the product of malicious individuals and stressed that it lacked credibility.

The spokesperson for the command urged city residents to disregard the report and to go about their daily business fearlessly.

The statement reads in part, “It is pertinent to state at this point that the command is not ignorant of the generation and promulgation of fake news as seen in some sections of the media, purporting that criminal elements are on rampage in the FCT.

“The Command wishes to categorically state that the news, targeted at creating panic in the FCT is a brainchild of malicious elements and lacks credence.

“Members of the public are hereby urged to outrightly disregard such news, especially those not verified by any official quarters and are enjoined to go about their lawful duties without the fear of Harassment or molestation of any kind or from any quarters”.

The command, according to the statement, is putting in place measures to ensure that the locals are safe during this festive season.
