The Nigerian Army has been asked by President Muhammadu to uphold their commitment to carrying out their constitutional obligations in accordance with international best practices and to remain apolitical.

At the international conference facility Kasarawa in Sokoto state, the president made the comments as he officially opened the 2022 Chief of Army Staff annual conference.

He claimed that his administration had maintained a strict policy regarding the modernization of the Nigerian Army and other armed forces in order to increase their capacity and competence in carrying out their constitutional duties.

He promised that his administration will continue to give top priority to the security and aviation services provided to Nigerians by the Nigerian Army.

The COAS annual conference’s theme should address its desired objectives, the president added in his message.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Farouk Yahaya, stated earlier in his welcoming speech that the Nigerian Army made great development during the year under review with the help of Nigerian political figures, business executives, and ordinary Nigerians.

He claimed that the training exercise carried out by the Nigerian Army in collaboration with other international soldiers had continued to hone the abilities of Nigerian troops in weapon handling and techniques, and that the staff members’ performance had improved sufficiently as a result.

He explained to the president the Nigerian Army’s plan to establish Nigerian Army Aviation, which, if it were to become fully operational, would play a number of roles, such as enabling quick troop deployment, prompt casualty evacuation, and quick logistics delivery.

In his speech at the conference, the governor of Sokoto State, Minu Waziri Tambuwal, expressed the expectation that the conference’s results will have a good influence on many of the Nigerian Army’s operations and activities across the nation.
