Trigger-happy policeman arrested over murder of Ajah resident

A trigger-happy policeman has been arrested over the murder of a young man identified as Gafaru Buraimoh, at the Ajah area of Lagos State.

In a viral video circulating on the internet, Buraimoh of Happy Land Estate, Ajah, went buy petrol when he was gunned down by an Inspector of Police.

While the culprit was disarmed and apprehended by his peers, the video showed other personnel of the Nigerian Police shooting teargas to dispel the crowd.

Reacting to the situation via a press release on its official Twitter account, @PoliceNG, and signed by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Command stated that the officer involved in the shooting has been disarmed and apprehended.

The statement read, “At About 2330hrs of Tuesday, December 06 2022, a shooting incident involving men of Ajah Division, resulted in the unfortunate death of Gafaru Buraimoh of Happy Land Estate, Ajah. The officer behind the shooting, an Inspector of Police, was immediately disarmed and has been detained, as a full-scale investigation has commenced.”

It was further gathered that the family of the victims has been contacted about the incident.

“The Lagos State Police Command through the Area Commander, Elemoro and Divisional Police Officer, Ajah has since notified and established contact with the family.

“The Command, while commiserating with the family of the deceased over the avoidable and most unfortunate incident, gives assurances that the already commenced investigation into the immediate and remote circumstances leading to the shooting will be brought to a speedy and conclusive end, while equally ensuring that justice is served,” the statement read.
