Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has expressed condolences to traders whose property was destroyed in Thursday’s tanker fire in Ibadan’s Apata area.

Makinde spoke through his deputy, Chief Adebayo Lawal, who visited the fire disaster site on Friday evening.

The Governor assured victims of the tanker fire that the government would help them recover from the ordeal.

He described the incident as heartbreaking, but expressed gratitude to God that no lives were lost.

Lawal said:

The government of Oyo State under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde sympathises with all our people who lost property, goods and other sources of livelihood to the unfortunate incident.

We enjoin you to take consolation in the fact that no life was lost in the incident.

May the Almighty God comfort you all, and give you the fortitude to bear the losses.

The governor advised motorists, particularly those driving articulated vehicles, to always check the condition of their vehicles before embarking on any journey.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, a fully loaded tanker lost control and exploded on Thursday evening around 6:15pm in the Apata area of Ibadan.

The fire destroyed nearby businesses and structures.
