The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has distributed relief supplies to 4,215 flood victims in three Kano State Local Government Areas (LGAs).

Alhaji Mustafa Habib, Director-General of NEMA, disclosed this during the distribution of materials to beneficiaries on Sunday in Warawa, Dawakin Kudu LGA of the state.

Habib, who was represented by NEMA Coordinator Kano Territorial Office Dr Nuradeen Abdullahi, stated that the items were intended to alleviate the victims’ suffering.

He advised residents to follow the Nigeria Meteorological Agency’s (NiMet) annual flood precautions to avoid future flooding.

Habib urged the recipients to make good use of the items.

Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje praised President Muhammadu Buhari for the donation.

Ganduje, represented by Dr Saleh Jili, Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), disclosed that 2,332 flood victims benefited from the relief in the state’s Warawa LGA.

“In Dawakin Kudu 346 flood victims benefitted, while 1,337 victims benefitted in Wudil LGA and 200 vulnerables also benefited out of the 7,415 bags of grains approved by Buhari from the National Strategic Reserve Stock to be distributed in Kano,” he said.

He mentioned maize, rice, millet, guinea corn, Indomie, rice, beans, tomato paste, seasoning cubes, vegetable oil, cement, and nails among the materials.

According to him, other items included nylon mat, roofing sheets, blankets, ceiling board, clothing materials, children’s clothes, mosquito nets, and salt.

He added that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Candidate, had also donated relief materials to flood victims in the state.

In response, Murtala Darki, Chairman of Wudil Local Government Area, praised NEMA and the State Government for the gesture.

Malam Maikudi Maikaba, speaking on behalf of the recipients, promised to use the items wisely.
