Controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has warned Northerners against voting for politicians who will attack and kill bandits wreaking havoc across the region.
Gumi said bandits are warriors who shouldn’t be killed but negotiated with.
The Islamic cleric disclosed this during one of his recent sermons.
He added that Northerners should vote politicians who will grant amnesty to bandits and give them what them want for peace to reign
“Don’t vote for those who will fight bandits. The fighters are our warriors in the forest……. Our people in the forest.
“So vote for those who after attaining power will call and negotiate with our people (bandits) so as to give them what they want for peace to reign.”
Recall that Gumi visited bandits in the forest of Zamfara and Kaduna states in an attempt to negotiate a peace deal with them.
He has asked the Nigerian government several times to grant amnesty to bandits as it gave to Niger Delta militants.
According to the Islamic cleric, military action against criminal herdsmen and bandits will not solve the security challenge, but “will only worsen the situation”.
