Bello Matawalle, the governor of Zamfara State, has released 46 prisoners who were incarcerated there for a variety of offenses.

Following the pardon, the state commissioner for justice, Barrister Junaidu Attahir, spoke to the media and stated that the governor had pardoned the prisoners based on the committee’s recommendations.

According to Attahir, the Nigerian federal republic’s constitution gives the governor the authority to pardon any criminal.

He said, “Under section 212 of the 1999 constitution as amended, the Governor has the power to release or remit any convict.
