Governor Nyesom Wike has revealed the details of his meeting with his Akwa Ibom counterpart, Udom Emmanuel, amid the Peoples Democratic Party’s lingering crisis (PDP).
WITHIN NIGERIA previously reported that Wike met with Udom behind closed doors at his private residence in Port Harcourt on Saturday, with Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue in attendance.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Wike stated that the meeting with his Akwa Ibom counterpart was a friendly discussion but that politics were not discussed.
Despite their differing political affiliations and points of view, the Rivers governor said he has a great relationship with Udom and intends to keep it.
He said:
Everybody knows my relationship with Udom. We will continue to maintain that relationship. We may have different political affiliations and thinking. That should not divide us or create a gap in brotherly love.
Like he said, it is for the spirit of the birth of Christ and we are going to the new year. There is a need to continue with that relationship as brothers and friends.
So, anything about politics was not part of that discussion. Anything on politics was not discussed at all.
The meeting comes amid reports that the PDP’s G5 governors, led by Wike, may support All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Tinubu.
Wike and Tinubu, on the other hand, have denied meeting in London and have refuted endorsement claims ahead of the 2023 elections.
