All banks are prohibited by the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) from carrying out requests for cash withdrawals from any public accounts.

Within Nigeria reports that the head of the NFIU, Moddibo Haman Tukur, said that in order to stop the rate at which money was being taken out of the public accounts, this was now necessary.

According to him, this was done “without using the money laundering laws and occasionally for corrupt purposes.”

He claimed that the NFIU had instructed all banks and levels of government organizations to completely transition to the online space.

He said ll transactions involving public money must be routed through the banks for the purpose of accountability and transparency”.

Tukur said any governor who withdrawals one Naira cash from any bank will be investigated immediately not minding the governor’s immunity.

However, any cash withdrawal from a public account will henceforth require a waiver from the President and such waiver will be considered on their merits.
