6 injured in Paris train station knife attack, attacker shot

Six people were hurt by a man wielding a knife at the Gare du Nord train station in Paris on Wednesday morning. According to local authorities, the man was shot.

On Wednesday morning, a man injured six people with a knife attack at Paris’s Gare du Nord train station, according to local authorities.

The attacker was detained by security forces, according to BFMTV, which cited police sources.

He said the unnamed assailant was currently “between life and death” in a hospital.

Several passengers and a border police officer were among the wounded, according to officials.

The officer was stabbed in the back by the assailant, but was saved by a bulletproof vest. .

Another one of the other victims was seriously injured in the shoulder blade and taken for emergency treatment.

French Interior Minister, Gérald Darmanin thanked security forces for their “efficient and courageous response’’, and said the attacker was neutralised.

He said the unnamed assailant was currently “between life and death” in a hospital.

The area was cordoned off and train traffic was partially disrupted.

Video of the Gare du Nord, one of the French capital’s busiest commuter stations, showed an eerie calms as dozens of police huddled nearby the Eurostar terminal entrance in areas cordoned off from the public.

No specific motive, including terrorism, has currently been suggested by authorities.

Further details were not immediately known.
