Lionel Messi’s goal for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) against Angers on Wednesday night tied him with Cristiano Ronaldo for most career goals in Europe’s top five leagues.

Last night, Messi’s PSG thrashed Angers 2-0 in Ligue 1.

According to WITHIN NIGERIA, the match was Messi’s first since winning the World Cup in Qatar in 2022. After the tournament, PSG granted the superstar a leave of absence, causing him to miss games against Strasbourg and Lens.

Yesterday, Messi added to Hugo Ekitike’s early goal for PSG after 72 minutes. The victory over Angers increased PSG’s lead over second-placed Lens to six points at Ligue 1.

Messi’s goal last night was his 13th in 20 games this season.

It adds to Messi’s incredible goal-scoring record at Barcelona, where he set the club record with 672 goals in 778 appearances.

Messi has 696 goals in his senior career for Barcelona and PSG. This brought him to a level with his rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, in Europe’s top five leagues.

It is understood that the Portuguese striker scored 118 goals in his first season at Manchester United before scoring 450 goals in 438 appearances for Real Madrid, 101 goals in three seasons at Juventus, and 27 goals for United in his second stint at the club.

On the other hand, Ronaldo scored five goals for Sporting CP, bringing his club career total to 701 – five more than long-term rival Messi, who is two years younger.

Ronaldo, on the other hand, now plays for the Saudi Arabia club Al Nassr.
