Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, has directed revenue agents of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, MDAs, in the state to accept the old and new naira notes.

The governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Communication, Muyiwa Adekeye, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.

El-Rufai’s directive was predicated on the subsisting Supreme Court order on the old naira notes.

The statement reads: “In line with the subsisting order of the Supreme Court, the Kaduna State Government has directed its ministries, departments and agencies to ensure that their collection agents continue to accept payments made in all denominations of the naira, old and new.

“The law of Kaduna State does not allow personnel of government agencies to be involved in cash collection of revenues.

“The collection agents authorised by the state government agencies do offer citizens a route for cash payment, and are expected to comply with the subsisting court order.”

WITHIN NIGERIA recalls that El-Rufai had opposed President Muhammadu Buhari for banning the use of the old N500, and N1000 notes despite the Supreme Court order.

El-Rufai accused Buhari of allowing evil individuals to use him to fight and defeat the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The governor said those people using the president as an instrument to defeat the APC are doing so because they failed to force their own candidate on the party during the June 2022 primaries.

He was reacting to Buhari’s pronouncement on naira redesign policy and the ongoing currency crisis Nigerians are experiencing.

He stressed that the old naira notes would be valid in Kaduna State.
