The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, has ordered a special deployment in the air, land, and water in Lagos for Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections in collaboration with sister security agencies.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Operations, Johnson Kokumo, who disclosed this on Thursday, said about 27,000 policemen were already in Lagos.

Kokumo said all policemen serving in the state had been briefed on what was expected of them ahead of the elections.

The DIG stated these while addressing newsmen at the Lagos State Police Command yesterday.

He assured residents of their safety during and after the elections, adding that all crisis-prone areas in the metropolis had been mapped.

Responding to a question on a viral video where some people were heard threatening to deal with anyone who voted against a particular political party, Kukumo said investigation was ongoing.

He urged all police personnel to ensure that they abide by the Electoral Act by ensuring that the election was free, fair and credible in all parts of the state.

Kokumo added that a special electoral investigation team had been set up at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) where all cases and arrests relating to the elections would be treated immediately.

Earlier, the Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, assured the DIG that the police in Lagos would not disappoint the residents and the nation at large.
