The Sokoto State Police Command and the Department of State Services (DSS) have warned Nigerian politicians not to involve both agencies in their business.

Both security agencies denied their involvement in the misconstrued fact in viral audio currently circulating in a statement issued by the state Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Gumel, and the State Director of DSS, Yahaya Hassan.

According to them;

The audio, which was released by the media handlers of the former governor Attahiru Bafarawa, is currently in circulation.

In this audio, there is a portrayal that the former governor, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, refuses to sign the peace accord, which the CP and Director DSS are working on together with Bafarawa.

For the avoidance of doubt, members of the public should note that the initiative, which is aimed at consultation with the elder Statesmen, is also expected to be led by Governor Aminu Tambuwal.

Both agencies stated that their participation in the ongoing consultations is solely due to their membership in the Sokoto peace and security council, and not because they are politicians.

According to the police and DSS, it would be in the best interests of the public for both elder statesmen to settle their grievances without changing the mission of the ongoing consultation.

The security agencies stated that the content of the aforementioned audio should instead serve as a wake-up call to all political players to stop involving the CP and DSS in their political matters when resolving grievances, and that “in a similar way, they have been misquoted in the viral audio.”
