Joe Abah, former Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, has responded to a video showing some Nigerians in the diaspora destroying their international passports after becoming enraged by the outcome of the 2023 general elections.

In social media videos, angry Nigerians described the country as irredeemable and a failed state, adding that they will no longer have anything to do with or be associated with the country for the rest of their lives.

Destroying his Nigerian international passport, one of the aggrieved Nigerians in the diaspora who did not disclose his identity in the video said, “Having critically observed the way and manner the Nigerian elections have been conducted so far, I have come to the conclusion that Nigeria can never be redeemed and as a result, I have decided not to be associated with anything called Nigeria.

“In order to buttress my assertion, I hereby destroy my Nigerian passport. Thank you. God bless you.”

Another enraged Nigerian chastised politicians, traditional leaders, and Yoruba, South-West Nigerians for ethnically profiling and attacking Igbos in Lagos State.

He stated that his wife is Yoruba and that he wants the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to become Nigeria’s next president.

Tearing his passport, the enraged man said;

This is my Nigerian passport and it doesn’t even matter whether I am an Igbo, Yoruba or Hausa. The bottom line is that I am a Nigerian and that comes first. Nigeria has failed us. We have hoped for a better country.

My wife is Yoruba and I never intended for Peter Obi to be the leader of Nigeria because he is Igbo, but I wanted him to be the president because of what he has to offer, because of what he brings to the table for Nigerians and for that reason, because of what has transpired in this last election, from today I refused to be associated with anything regarding Nigeria.

This is my passport. Nigeria is a failed state. Nigeria is a failed nation. Telling Igbos to go back to where they come from, are you people stupid? Are you all mad? Are you all crazy? Nigeria is a failed state.

Reacting to the videos, Abah mocked one of the men on Twitter, saying his accent would always associate him with Nigeria.

You that pronounce ‘anything’ as ‘any tin’? You will always have sontin to do with Nigeria, he said.
