The Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has praised the party’s leadership for promising to refund the nomination and interest form fee to the family of a deceased aspirant from Imo State, Chief Humphrey Anumudu.

WITHIN NIGERIA understands that the deceased, Humphrey Anumudu, had purchased the party’s governorship interest form sold for N25 million.

Unfortunately, the governorship aspirant died last week Friday in his Lagos home after returning from the party’s meeting at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.

However, the LP National Chairman, Julius Abure, has stated that as a gesture of empathy and compassion, the party will refund the deceased’s N25 million nomination fee to his immediate family.

Abure insisted that the opposition party stood for empathy, thus the need to support Anumudu’s family during this difficult time.

This was stated by the chairman on Tuesday during a meeting with the party’s National Assembly-elect members in Abuja.

On Wednesday, Obi thanked the party leadership for agreeing to refund the form’s cost to the deceased’s family via his verified Twitter handle.

He also praised the party for agreeing to refund N10 million to each governorship aspirant who paid N25 million for the governorship form.

The LP flagbearer stated that the gestures reflect the party’s responsiveness to Nigerians’ aspirations.

He wrote:

I applaud the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Barr. Julius Abure, and the NWC for also agreeing to refund the cost of the form to the family of a deceased aspirant Chief Humphrey Anumudu from Imo State; and also agreeing to refund N10m to each of those that had paid.

These gestures, reflect the Labour Party’s responsiveness to the yearnings of Nigerians. -PO
