Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, said on Thursday in Abuja that an interim government to obstruct Bola Tinubu’s inauguration would not work under President Muhammadu Buhari’s watch.

Lalong made the remarks shortly after meeting with President Buhari at Aso Rock.

This comes less than 24 hours after the presidential campaign councils of the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party challenged the Department of State Services to apprehend interim national government plotters.

Their appeal follows a statement issued by Nigeria’s secret police, which revealed that some individuals were plotting to delay Tinubu’s inauguration and instead install an interim national government.

On March 1, the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Tinubu as the winner of the February 25 presidential election.

The APC presidential candidate garnered 8,794,726 votes to defeat Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, who polled 6,984,520 votes and the Labour Party’s Peter Obi, who scored 6,101,533 votes.

Following INEC’s announcement, Atiku and Obi rejected the results alleging that the election was rigged.

But speaking at the State House, Lalong said, “Nigerians will always say, ‘God forbid.’ Not under the administration of President Buhari, who has been saying every time that ‘I believe in democracy. I believe that after my tenure, I want to go and rest.’

“He said it today that ‘I’m going back to Daura,’ and I told him that some of us will still disturb you in Daura. This man has worked very well for democracy.

“So those who are still talking about it (interim government), I will say they are just dreaming. They are just daydreaming. By the grace of God, Buhari is going to bring a successor and that successor is already Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

The Plateau State Governor said he was in the statehouse to formally invite the President to Plateau State to inaugurate his administration’s legacy projects.

“They include six model hospitals, six model secondary schools and six model primary schools. Apart from that, I have completed many of the abandoned projects left by my predecessors.

“One of them is a giant British-American overhead bridge, the best High Court in the North is in Jos now, waiting for launching. I’m very proud of that as a lawyer,” Lalong boasted.

However, there is no confirmation yet as to whether or not the President has accepted the invitation.
