Pastor Adewale Giwa has joined those calling for a new presidential election in Nigeria.

The leader of the Awaiting the Second Coming of Christ Ministry also advocated for a regional government system to address unique challenges.

Giwa said in a statement on Monday that as Christians around the world celebrate Christ’s resurrection, “Nigeria must rise from the dead and lead by example.”

The cleric urged the judiciary to “wake up” and fulfil its civic duties of ensuring transparency, justice, and truth.

Giwa claimed that some judicial officers had become “tools in the hands of the executive,” and he advised them to take the people’s side.

On the February 25 presidential election, the church leader said “even the blind can testify that it was organized in a fraudulent manner as usual”.

“I hope this time around, the judiciary will make history by ordering a fresh election that will determine the future of the country.

“Why can’t we stop making Nigeria a laughing stock? Why is it difficult for the electoral body to organize a transparent election?” he quipped.

The statement said a new presidential election will pacify “the good citizens who are angry with the conduct of the exercise”.

Giwa further stressed that an office holder not “duly and transparently elected” would not perform in office.

“Any leader elected in a fraudulent way cannot give the citizens a positive result. Nigerians must not fall in the hands of oppressors again for another eight years,” he added.
