By the end of the 2025-2026 season, Premier League clubs have agreed to remove gambling sponsorship from the front of their matchday shirts.

After the aforementioned season, Premier League clubs are only permitted to display gambling-related brands on items such as shirt sleeves and LED signs.

Football clubs in the league are still allowed to sign brand-new shirt-front contracts with a maximum lifespan of 2026 between now and 2026.

It is worth noting that the gambling brands on the front of the jerseys of eight Premier League clubs are worth an estimated £60 million per year. This is expected to be sacrificed beginning in 2026.

Before making the announcement, the league, its clubs, and the Department for Culture, Media, and Sport held consultations as part of the government’s ongoing review of the gaming legal framework.

The Premier League has become the first sports league in the United Kingdom to voluntarily limit gambling advertising.

The government is expected to release a white paper on gambling after reviewing the gaming laws.

According to the Premier League, a self-regulatory strategy would be a useful and adaptable alternative to regulation or outright prohibition of gambling sponsorship.

A collective agreement was reached to begin the ban after the 2025-2026 season to assist teams in transitioning away from shirt-front gambling sponsorship.
