A yet-to-be-identified driver of an Iveco trailer has been hospitalised after his vehicle somersaulted opposite the PUNCH Place along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

It was gathered that the truck driver was taken to the hospital in Sagamu by some officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC.

According to PUNCH, eyewitnesses said the accident occurred around 8:30 pm on Thursday when the truck with registration number AAA 681XN got to the spot where there is a billboard along the expressway near PUNCH place.

Eyewitnesses said that the ‘Bucket’ of the truck suddenly sprang loose and got hooked to the billboard.

The Iveco truck somersaulted leading to injuries to the driver of the trailer who has been taken to hospital for treatment.

An eyewitness Oladiran Ayomipo said that the driver of the trailer was in the fast lane when suddenly the ‘Bucket’ of his trailer sprang loose and got hooked to the billboard.

He said, “I was at the other side of the expressway when I saw that the trailer’s bucket suddenly got loose and hooked the billboard. That caused the vehicle to summersault and it got crashed in the process. We all ran to the spot but the driver was severely injured and later when the FRSC officials came here, they took him to the hospital.”

Another eyewitness, Femi Olasupo, said that the truck driver said that he went to Lagos to offload his load of granite rock and he was heading to Ibadan when the accident happened.

He said, “The driver was screaming in pain and he said that he had just dropped his load of granite in Lagos and was on his way to Ibadan when the accident happened at PUNCH Place.”

As of the time of writing this report, the trailer’s bucket is still hooked to the billboard though our correspondent saw a towing vehicle brought to the scene by FRSC officers to tow away the trailer on the expressway.

The FRSC Corps Public Education Officer, Ogun Command, Florence Okpe confirmed the incident and she said that FRSC officers are already at the scene to ensure the free flow of traffic.
