The seven local government areas of the state, where the supplementary elections will be place on April 15, have been directed by the Police Command in Ebonyi to restrict movement.

This information can be found in a news release that the Command Public Relations Officer, SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, released on Friday in Abakaliki.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Faleye Olaleye, was described in the statement as noting that the limitations are in accordance with the Inspector-General of Police’s instructions.

Olaleye said the restriction of all vehicular movements on the roads is from midnight on Friday to 6pm on Saturday across all the seven Local Government Areas of the State.

“The affected local government areas are Abakaliki, Afikpo North, Afikpo South, Ezza North, Ezza South, Ikwo and Ivo.

“This order exempts those on essential services such as election observers, accredited media, ambulances, firefighters, etc.

“Members of the public are seriously warned to adhere strictly to this restriction order and any person or group of persons found instigating violence or violating this order will be dealt with decisively,” Olaleye warned.

The Commissioner, however, assured residents of Ebonyi that the Police Force will collaborate effectively with other sister security agencies and the leadership of INEC to ensure a safe and secure space for citizens to freely exercise their franchise.
