The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has directed an overhaul of the revenue collection protocol as it affects the Ministry of Environment and other agencies.

The latest directive is coming on the worrisome reports of misconduct by some revenue consultants attached to the Ministry of Environment.

The directive was contained in a statement signed by the Spokesperson of the state governor, Olawale Rasheed on Friday in Osogbo.

The statement revealed that the Governor directed the immediate stoppage of the inherited collection model in the Ministry of Environment.

He also mandated that all revenue consultants enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with the state government.

“The MOU must be prepared by the Ministry of Justice, spelling out detailed modus operandi of activities and governing protocol for all revenue officers.

“No revenue consultant should operate without a standard MOU administered by the Ministry of Justice,” Adeleke directed.

Governor Adeleke who expressed shock at the reported activities of some revenue consultants also instructed the affected MDAs to host an emergency meeting of all revenue consultants to enforce the new directive and discipline erring agents.

While reaffirming his administration’s zero-tolerance policy for untoward practices, the governor promised severe punishment for any revenue agents found flaunting standard practices or engaging in sharp practices against the interest of the state.

“Our administration has zero tolerance for corrupt practices. We will sanction heavily any official found indulging in practices against financial regulations. Immediate reform must be implemented as directed”, the statement concluded.
