168 persons displaced by Sango police barracks building collapse – NEMA

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed that 168 people have been displaced as a result of a building collapse at the Sango police barracks in Ibadan.

According to the agency, a total of 28 flats were affected.

The agency made these statements in a statement made available to journalists on Sunday.

WITHIN NIGERIA gathered that one of the buildings within the Sango police barracks in Ibadan collapsed on Saturday.

Ibadan North local government is home to the police barracks.

According to sources, the apartment block collapsed yesterday evening.

NEMA has, however, said that no fewer than one hundred and sixty eight persons have been displaced as a result of the incident.

South West Zonal Coordinator of NEMA, Mr Saheed Akiode made this disclosure via a statement made available to DAILY POST.

He described the rescue operation as a successful one.

Akiode said, “Over 168 persons displaced. The operation was successful evacuation activities is still ongoing. No casualty was recorded at the scene, 2 storey building collapsed with a total of 28 flats was affected.

“The NEMA South West Zonal Office received a distress alert at about 6.00pm on Saturday 22nd April, 2023 of a collapsed building at Nigeria Police Barrack block 11, Sango, Ibadan.

“The Zonal Coordinator Swiftly activated the Federal and State Fire Service and other response Agencies to the scene of incident. The ZC coordinated the rescue operation and the evacuation of the building and the surrounding buildings”.
