The Ohanaeze Ndigbo socio-cultural organisation, has explained why it will not congratulate President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu just yet.

Ohanaeze’s national Vice President, Damian Okeke-Ogene, said the apex Igbo socio-political organisation cannot congratulate Tinubu until the court process has been concluded.

Okeke-Ogene disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, April 25, 2023.

He said, “Ohanaeze is not in a hurry to recognise Tinubu as the President-elect because any house built on a faulty foundation is bound to collapse.”

He further added, “We believe that the process of the 2023 presidential election is still ongoing. The voting has been completed, and the court has taken over. Until the outcome of the court process is known, we cannot take a stance on the 2023 election.”

The Labour Party’s Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, are contesting the outcome of the February 25 presidential election at the Presidential Election Tribunal.

Obi and Atiku are arguing that Tinubu was not duly nominated by APC and that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) contravened its own laws in returning the APC candidate as president-elect.

Meanwhile, preparations are ongoing for the handover of power to Tinubu and his deputy, Kashim Shettima, on May 29.
