On Wednesday morning, a sizable group of women and youths blocked the busy Jos-Abuja highway to express their outrage over the ongoing attacks by gunmen in Plateau communities.

Numerous locals had died as a result of the attacks.

It was discovered that the most recent demonstration came after two youths were shot and killed by gunmen on Tuesday night in the Hoss community of Plateau State’s Riyom Local Government Area.

Gyang Dalyop, one of the protesters, said, “Our people are not happy over the continuous attacks and killings by gunmen in our communities,” when speaking to reporters in Jos on Wednesday.

“That is why we have come out again to protest these happenings. Could you imagine that two young men were killed again last night (Tuesday)? The victims were killed a few meters from a military checkpoint in the community. If the people are not safe and can be killed even close to where soldiers are stationed, then what is their work in the community?”

Another protester, who gave her name as Hannatu, said the community was tired of the killings and the inability of the security agents to apprehend those behind the acts.

She called on the government to intervene in the situation before the incidents get out of hand.

WITHIN NIGERIA reports that gunmen had last week killed six miners in the neighbouring Turu Lamba community, which also sparked protests by youths in the community leading to the blocking of the Jos-Abuja highway.

The situation had caused a heavy gridlock, leaving commuters stranded and the movement of goods disrupted.
