The Coalition for True Governance (CTG) has called for the impeachment of Hope Uzodinma, the governor of Imo, due to the state’s ongoing murders.

In addition, the organisation encouraged security organisations to focus their searchlights on Imo due to the recent wave of unrest brought on by the employees’ strike action.

Charles Odenigbo, the convener, urged members of the Imo House of Assembly to start the impeachment process against the governor in a statement on Tuesday.

His “lack of action and leadership” in resolving pressing challenges, according to CTG, has significantly disrupted the state and instilled terror in its citizens.

Odenigbo argued that it is unacceptable that innocent people continue to die while being compelled to protest for better salary and working conditions.

“Just a few weeks back, five policemen and a couple were gruesomely killed in Ngor-Okpala area of the state. This is disheartening.”

The group regrets it. The alarming development of violent crimes, including kidnappings and killings, keeps Imo in the news frequently.

“The ongoing workers’ strike has caused significant disruption to public services, with healthcare and education being severely affected.”

Odenigbo knocked Uzodinma for “falling to take proper steps to address the concerns of workers, and failing to engage in meaningful dialogue”.

“The lawmakers in the state are there for a reason; to serve the people. If the Governor continues failing in his duties, the option of impeachment should be considered,” CTG urged.
