One Usman Hammed, a tenant, was on Thursday arraigned before an Ogudu Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, for allegedly assaulting his landlady over an electricity bill.

Hammed, 46, is being tried for assault to which he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Donjor Perezi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 8 at about 9 pm at No 25, Olaniyi Str., Agiliti, Mile 12, Lagos State.

Perezi alleged that the defendant assaulted the complainant, Mrs Josephine Durodola, when she demanded money from him for payment of an electricity bill.

The Magistrate, M.O. Tanimola, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section stipulates three years jail term for a convicted offender.
