The Senator representing Borno South and chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, Mohammed Ndume, has threatened to challenge the $800 million loan sought by President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

President Buhari had sought Senate’s approval for an $800 million loan from World Bank to fund the National Social Safety Network Programme, stating that the loan is aimed at providing succour to the poor upon removal of the petrol subsidy.

Reacting to the president during his recent interview on Trust TV’s Daily Politics, Ndume noted that the loan is unconstitutional and unfair.

The senator said: “I will go to court because it is illegal, unconstitutional and unfair. Let me give you an example: we are two now in the studio and you say you are going to borrow one million and share among the two of us, how are you going to select the two, beside that, if you are giving to the two, and they are the ones to pay, that is okay; but it is all Nigerians that will pay.

“If you give Nigerians N4,000 randomly today, how fair is that? In fact, it is unconstitutional because the Constitution of Nigeria does not allow you to discriminate.

“These guys are just using grammar to confuse this old man (Buhari) and he will just approve. Buhari does not understand this. They just want to steal the money and we cannot continue to allow this.

“Their target is what they can get out of it and not what Nigerians can get, you can quote me on that. They are misleading the President.”
