Governors from the South-East geopolitical zone have resolved to name the Second Niger Bridge after President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to the president’s media aide, Tolu Ogunlesi, the resolution of the governors followed a consultation with relevant stakeholders.

Tolu, who’s the Special Assistant to the President on Digital/New Media, made this known in a tweet on Tuesday.

“Following consultations, the Governors of the South-East have agreed that the Second Niger Bridge shall be named the Muhammadu Buhari Second Niger Bridge,” his tweet read.

The Special Assistant to the President on Digital Communications, Bashir Ahmad, also confirmed the development in a tweet on Tuesday, adding that the bridge would be commissioned today.

His tweet read, “The Second Niger Bridge is to officially be called/known as Buhari Second Niger Bridge. The Muhammadu Buhari Bridge is officially commissioned today, by President Muhammadu Buhari. #PMBLegacy.”

Meanwhile, the Indigenous People of Biafra kicked against the move to name the bridge after Buhari.

The group, in a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, on Monday, rejected naming of the bridge after Buhari, “because he came to power and completely sidelined our people.”
