The federal government of Bola Tinubu and representatives of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) are currently meeting to discuss the consequences of the removal of fuel subsidies.

WITHIN NIGERIA reports that the ongoing meeting at Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja, started around 5 pm.

In an interview with Punch on Sunday, TUC Secretary General Nuhu Toro confirmed the meeting, revealing that “the meeting will start by 4 p.m.”

This meeting follows a previous attempt at dialogue with the organised labour sector, which ended in failure.

On Wednesday, organised labour, including the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), held an inconclusive meeting with the government.

Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), is leading the federal government’s team at today’s meeting.

Others include Godwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), former Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, and Mele Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

Among those present are Zacch Adedeji, Executive Secretary of the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC), Yemi Adetunji, Executive Vice President, Downstream, of the NNPCL, Mr. Dele Alake, former Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, and Hon James Faleke.

The TUC has seven members, led by its President, Festus Osifo.
