Prof Jerry Gana, former Minister of Information, has urged the 10th National Assembly to work with the executive to ensure rapid development in all sectors of the economy.
Gana stated this during the post-inauguration ceremony of his son, Hon. Joshua Gana, who was elected to represent Niger State’s federal constituency of Lavun, Edati, and Mokwa in the House of Representatives.
According to the former minister, Nigerians are anticipating rapid development from President Bola Tinubu’s administration because the country has been moving at a glacial pace.
And the population is galloping. Because there are over 200 million people now, given the resource base of Nigeria, given the human talents given to Nigeria, and given all the lessons we have learned in the last 20 years or so, of democracy.
I think the 10th National Assembly together with the executives, really need to combine to move forward rapidly, move forward with infrastructure development, because there cannot be real serious development unless you have the basic infrastructure of roads and railways and the kind of thing that will make goods and services move.
The nation should have sound agricultural development, to be able to feed 200 million plus now. We wish we have the resources and then industrial development and then sound education, sound health, and all the factors, he said.
According to the former minister of information, what Nigerians expect from the 10th Assembly, is for them to cooperate with the executive so that the nation can move forward rapidly into genuine development.
People are tired. I must confess, we wasted the last eight years. That is the truth. Nigerians have given the APC another opportunity. Let them move this nation forward rapidly. We will not take another excuse. No, they have learned enough, he said.
In addition, Hon. Joshua Gana has called for a new financial model that can support the massive infrastructural provision that Nigeria currently lacks.
He stated that the country requires accelerated development in all sectors, and he advocated for compensating Nigerians for the hardship caused by the removal of subsidies.
Gana also stated that given the current state of the economy, the country would require the cooperation of both the legislative and executive branches of government.
He maintained that a harmonious executive-legislative relationship does not portray any national assembly as a runner stamp. He promised his constituents that he would represent them well.
Senator Zainab Kure, the leader of the People’s Democratic Party in Niger state, urged the 10th Assembly to pass legislation that would end insecurity and promote economic rebirth through effective oversight functions.
