Following the calling of one witness and the submission of some documents before the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has ended its defence of the petition filed by Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

After an Information Technology (IT) Practitioner with INEC, (its lone witness), Dr. Lawrence Bayode, adopted his written evidence and was cross-examined by attorneys for the respondents and the petitioners, Abubakar Mahmoud (SAN), proclaimed the conclusion of his client’s case.

According to Bayode, a Deputy Director in INEC’s IT Department, there were technical difficulties that prevented the real-time transmission of the presidential election results.

He added, among others, that whether or not results were electronically or manually transmitted cannot affect the integrity of the scores already captured in the polling unit results sheets (Form EC8A).
