The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kaduna has denied the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) allegation that they attempted to thumbprint fresh ballot papers before admitting them as evidence in court.
A video clip trending on social media shows some PDP members sorting ballot papers and booklets that will be presented as evidence at the Governorship Tribunal sitting in the state that was recently thumb printed.
The APC’s Secretary, Yahaya Baba Pate, dismissed the PDP’s allegation as an attempt to mislead the Tribunal and the public in a statement issued on Sunday.
He emphasised that the APC has always been committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and the rule of law.
We categorically deny any involvement or intention to thumbprint ballot papers before their admission as evidence in court. Such baseless accusations are nothing more than an attempt by the PDP to divert attention from their misconduct and discredit the ongoing tribunal proceedings, he said.
The APC urged the PDP not to use deception in their desperate attempt to gain an unfair advantage at the Gubernatorial Elections Tribunal.
They urged the PDP to respect the judicial process, present their case with credible evidence, and refrain from spreading misinformation that undermines the tribunal’s and the country’s democratic institutions’ credibility.
Furthermore, the APC demanded that security agencies investigate the PDP members who were involved in the incident at the INEC office.
Attempts were made to reach PDP State Secretary Ibrahim Wosono for more information on the matter, but his calls went unanswered.
When contacted about the matter, Rukayya S. Imam, INEC’s Head of the Department of Publicity and Voter Education State, referred to the raised issue as an allegation and declined to comment further.
Missing Ex-ASUU president, Fasina, found in Turkey
A former President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Dipo Fasina, popularly known as ‘Jingo’, who was declared missing, has been found.
He was found at Istanbul Airport, Turkey, according to the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission.
The former ASUU chair was said to have gone missing “for a few days” at Istanbul Airport while connecting on a flight back to Nigeria.
But, in a tweet on Sunday, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission said Fasina was found following a search by officials of the Nigerian Embassy in Turkey at the busy Istanbul Airport.
NiDCOM said the don would be on his way to Nigeria on Monday (today).
It lauded Nigeria’s High Commission in Turkey for its collaborative efforts to locate the scholar.
NiDCOM wrote, “The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, in collaboration with the Nigerian High Commission in Turkey, has successfully located Prof. Fasina, who went missing for a few days at Istanbul Airport while connecting on a flight back home.
Mr Fasina, 76, was travelling to Algeria when he was said to have missed his connecting flight from Istanbul, Turkey.
A big thanks to the Nigerian Ambassador to Turkey, who immediately sent officials to the airport to physically locate him in the very busy and huge Istanbul Airport.
