  • APC National Chairman Abdullahi Adamu revealed that Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu is incapacitated and is being treated in a hospital in another country.
  • President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is consulting extensively before drawing up his ministerial list.
  • Akeredolu’s medical leave has been extended indefinitely, changing the calculation for the governorship election in 2024.

Senator Abdullahi Adamu, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has revealed that Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu is incapacitated.

Adamu stated this during a meeting between the party’s national leadership and APC state chairmen.

Addressing the APC state chairmen, Adamu revealed that the governor was incapacitated and was being treated in a hospital in another country.

We regret to announce the extreme incapacity of the Governor of Ondo state who we understand has been hospitalised overseas. We wish and pray for him for a speedy recovery,” he said.

The president has just started. And he is doing his extensive consultation before coming up with his nominees for ministers.

The nomination of the ministers will come first. They will go through their screening until they are pronounced after they have been submitted by Mr. President. And Mr President will formally appoint his Ministers and swear them in.

Only after doing that will he disclose each of them to the country to know which Minister is going to which ministry, and how many ministries we are going to have, he said.

Adamu’s revelation comes just hours after Akeredolu, the chairman of the South West Governor’s Forum, wrote to the state House of Assembly requesting that his medical leave be extended indefinitely.

Last month, the governor, who has been in and out of hospitals, delegated authority to his deputy, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

He had planned to return to duty this week, but Akeredolu extended his medical leave indefinitely.

It is unknown what ailment he is battling, but his absence has changed the calculation for the governorship election in 2024.

Akeredolu writes Ondo Assembly, extends medical leave

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has written to the state House of Assembly requesting for an extension of his medical leave.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Rt Hon Olamide Oladiji, confirmed the receipt of the letter in Akure, the state capital.

Akeredolu said in the letter that the request was a sequel to doctors’ advice on the need for him to take adequate rest after recuperating.

Receiving the letter on behalf of other Lawmakers, the Speaker, said the governor’s action was in line with section 190 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria ( as amended).

Oladiji who expressed appreciation to God for the speedy recovery of the governor, expressed optimism that he would soon resume his duty.

Akeredolu in the letter said that his Deputy, Hon . Lucky Aiyedatiwa would “continue to act as governor until there is a written declaration to the contrary.

Recall that in the governor’s letter, dated 5th June 2023, had informed the Assembly of proceeding on medical leave and was expected to resume on 6th July, 2023.
