  • The party said it won the February presidential election.

The Labour Party has said the All Progressives Congress, APC, led government is aware that it stands no chance of winning at the presidential election tribunal.

The National Chairman of the party, Barrister Julius Abure, alleged that the ruling party is working ahead of a possible rerun.

He made the allegation on Monday in Abuja during an online meeting held with Nigerian-American Coalition for Justice and Democracy led by Professor Eddie Oparaoji, the LP Diaspora Chairman in the United States.

Abure asked his party members to get ready for further humiliating from APC and its government in the polls if their sinister plot sees the light of the day.

He said his allegation is based on the intelligence at his disposal indicating that the APC was aware that the odds are heavily stacked against it.

The Chairman, however, urged “the members of the party to be on the alert and get ready to further humiliate APC and its government in the polls if their sinister plot materializes.”

Abure’s allegation was contained in a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Obiora Ifoh.

The statement read: “Rumours have it that those in government are already planning for rerun and this is one of the support we will be canvasing from you.

“We should also be getting prepared because since all those in government are already preparing for rerun we too should not be taken unawares.

“So we will be needing your engagement and support on this aspect if per adventure it happens today, that the election is nullified, which is not what we are asking for, because we are asking for outright declaration of Peter Obi as the President of Nigeria,” Abure said.

The Chairman said the party strongly believes that it won the 2023 general election given the available evidence at its disposal, claiming that the LP is not expecting anything less than the declaration of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Abure added that, “supposing it didn’t happen as the government is believed to be planning for a rerun, it will not also be out of place for us to be preparing for a rerun election.”

He also said that the party had put all of its evidence before the court and hoped that the tribunal would act in its favour.
