Muritala Yakubu Ajaka, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate for the November 11, 2023 governorship election in Kogi State, has claimed that security operatives acting on Governor Yahaya Bello’s orders invaded his Abuja residence to arrest him on “trumped-up charges.”
Faruk Adejoh-Audu, the director of communications for the Ajaka campaign, stated this on behalf of the SDP candidate.
According to Adejoh-Audu, some armed men dressed in mufti stormed Ajaka’s home on Khartoum Street in Wuse, Abuja, around 12:30pm on Tuesday, claiming to be acting on the order of Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Adesina Yusuf, to arrest him for questioning over certain crimes.
He claimed that security agents informed him that the SDP candidate was being questioned about “attempted assassination, gun possession, and terrorism.”
The state government responded quickly, urging the SDP candidate to resolve his issue with security agencies.
Kinsley Fanwo, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Communication, stated in a statement that the current administration does not regard the SDP candidate as a serious contender in the upcoming election.
We know the contenders and the pretenders and he is not a political threat as far as Kogi State is concerned, he said.
Police spokesperson in the state, William Aya, did not respond to a request seeking confirmation of the move to arrest Ajaka.
NAFDAC warns the public against the consumption of artificially ripened fruits
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has warned members of the public against the consumption of fruits artificially ripened with calcium carbide.
The agency also expressed concerns over the illegal hawking of drugs in the open markets across the country, reiterating its determination to rid Nigeria of the menace of substandard and falsified medicines, unwholesome foods, corrosive cosmetics, and other substandard regulated products.
NAFDAC said it had noticed the dangerous practice of sale and consumption of fruits artificially ripened with calcium carbide, describing it as dangerous to human health.
Ripening is a unique aspect of plant development, which makes the fruit edible, softer, sweeter, more palatable, nutritious, and attractive.
