Mangu attack: Troops neutralize bandits, recover weapons

Troops have killed three bandits terrorising Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The bandits were killed by troops of 3 Division of the Nigerian Army deployed to end the insecurity and killings in the area.

Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director, Army Public Relations, made this known in a statement.

According to him, the operation took place on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the troops responded to distress calls at Mangu general area immediately, and fought gallantly, clearing three bandits.

He said “the troops recovered 3 x AK-47 rifles, 14 rounds of 7.62 mm Special rounds, 1 x Motorcycle and a Constabulary Police Identity card.”

He added that the gallant troops were currently on the trail of bandits who escaped with gunshot wounds during the fire fight.

The onslaught on the bandits comes amid fresh attack in Mangu.

Recall that Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen wreaking havoc in Nigeria’s middle belt struck in Plateau state on Sunday.

The gunmen left a trail of sorrow, tears and death in the wake of their fresh attack on Farinkasa Kerana and Sabon Gari communities in Mangu Local Government Area of the State.

Twelve persons were reportedly killed in the latest onslaught.

A despondent local, Mathew Habila, told newsmen on Sunday that the victims were killed in their houses on Saturday night.

Gov. Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau, imposed a 24-hour curfew on Mangu Local Government Area (LGA) of the State after the recent attack.

Mutfwang gave the directive on Sunday in Jos, in a statement issued by Mr Gyang Bere, Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor.

“The State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Mangu Local Government Area, following recent attacks that led to loss of lives and properties.

“The Governor, in consultation with the State Security Council, imposed the curfew on the entire Local Government Area to restore law and order” the statement read
