  • Ohanaeze asked President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergence over the sit-at-home order
  • The organisation said state of emergency will force governors to find solutions to the insecurity in the region
  • It said “Ekpa has declared a second Biafra War, which Igbos are not ready to fight”

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo socio-cultural organisation has said the perennial insecurity in the South East is an attempt to to divide the Igbo.

For months end, the region has recorded pockets of violent attacks but the insecurity reached a disturbing height in recent weeks as non-state actors turned the geopolitical zone into hotbed of mindless attacks and wanton killings amid enforcement of a week-long sit-at-home by a faction of the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) led by Finland based Simon Ekpa.

To address the deepening security crisis in region, Ohanaeze is asking President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergence over the sit-at-home order in the Southeast.

Ohanaeze asserted that a state of emergency will make the Southeast governors sit tight and find a lasting solution to the unrest.

Ohanaeze’s Secretary-General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said the body would not allow Ekpa to destroy the economic activities of the Southeast.

Speaking during an interview with Daily Post on Sunday, Isiguzoro accused former Anambra governor, Peter Obi, of not speaking against the sit-at-home order.

He said “A desperate moment needs desperate action. We want to warn again that Ohanaeze will not fold its arms and allow miscreants to destroy economic activities in the Southeast.

“If possible, where this sit-at-home is happening should be declared a state of emergency. This is what Tinubu would do that will make the Southeast governors sit up and find a lasting solution to the problem.

“Ekpa has declared a second Biafra War, which Igbos are not ready to fight. Igbos are supporting Tinubu and would assist in ensuring that this rebellion is squashed.

“Ekpa’s action is an attempt to divide Igbos, and we wonder why Peter Obi and the rest are not talking. We hope this is not a conspiracy against the president.”
