  • Adamu said that he will not comment on the matter until Tinubu returns from the AU’s meeting
  • Adamu in March 2022 emerged APC chairman by consensus as endorsed by former President Muhammadu Buhari

All Progressives Congress (APC) national chairman Senator Abdullahi Adamu has commented on reports that he has resigned from his position.

Last week, the embattled former chairman scheduled meetings for the National Working Committee (NWC), the Caucus, and the National Executive Committee (NEC).

Due to President Bola Tinubu’s absence, the NEC and NWC were postponed and rescheduled for Tuesday, July 18, and Wednesday, July 19.

According to reliable sources within the Presidency, Femi Gbajabiamila, the President’s chief of staff, received the resignation letter from Adamu, a former governor of Nasarawa State, on Sunday.

However, Adamu late Sunday was tightlipped on his status within the APC amid reports of his resignation.

The former governor said that he will not comment on the matter until Tinubu returns from the AU’s meeting.

“I won’t talk about the issue because the president is away,” Adamu told Daily Trust.

Adamu in March 2022 emerged APC chairman by consensus as endorsed by former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The chairman before the presidential primaries of the APC, declared former Senate President Ahmad Lawan as the consensus candidate of the party, a move many believe was to spite Tinubu, the eventual winner of the primary election.

Adamu’s quiet squabble with Tinubu did not stop even after the swearing in of the later as president. Adamu recently opposed the list of the principal officers of the party announced by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio and Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas as endorsed by Tinubu.

Meanwhile, sources said that Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, has received and accepted the resignation of former Party Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, on the orders of President Tinubu.

Late Sunday night, an APC National Working Committee (NWC) member disclosed that Uzodinma was also mandated to ensure a smooth handover to Adamu’s “next-in-line” pending the official election of substantive replacement.

Adamu’s resignation makes it unclear if the APC will proceed with the NWC meeting and Tuesday and Wednesday’s Causus and NEC meetings as rescheduled.
