  • Ahmad Bashir, former media aide to erstwhile president, Muhammadu Buhari, berated Davido for the video, describing it as disrespectful. He said it denigrated and portrayed Islam in bad light
  • Another twitter user from the North insinuated that Davido deserved the same treatment as Deborah Samuel who was burned alive over alleged blasphemy.

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani has weighed in on the controversy that trails a music video shared by Nigerian superstar, Davido Adeleke, better known as Davido.

Davido shared the music video of his label artist, Logos Olori, on his Twitter page on Friday morning.

In the video, some people, mostly male, dressed in white gown can be seen imitating the Muslims style of praying during solat before segueing into a nondescript dancing routine.

The video was greeted with outrage and condemnation especially from Muslims in the largely conservative northern part of the country.

Ahmad Bashir, former media aide to erstwhile president, Muhammadu Buhari, berated Davido for the video, describing it as disrespectful. He said it denigrated and portrayed Islam in bad light.

Another twitter user from the North insinuated that Davido deserved the same treatment as Deborah Samuel who was burned alive over alleged blasphemy.

Other Muslims, who found the video offensive, asked the music star to delete the video and apologise for his action.

Reacting to the development, Sani said it will be honourable for Davido to pull down the music video if his fans feel offended as it concerns their religious beliefs.

Taking to his Twitter page s Sunday, the former lawmaker also asked the music star to apologise to his Muslim fans who feel offended by the video and move on with his career.

He wrote: “As an artist or entertainer If your fans feel offended by a piece or portion of your work, especially as it concerns their culture, faith or religious beliefs, it will be most honourable for you to delete or edit that portion, apologise to them and move on. I’m here talking about Davido. This is my own opinion.”

However, almost 48 hours later, the video is still up despite the opprobrium and castigation from some members of the public.
