Ibrahim Gusau, President of the Nigeria Football Federation, has urged the Super Falcons to “carry the mantle of Africa’s pride” and “keep Africa’s hope alive” as they prepare to face co-hosts Australia in their crucial second match of the FIFA Women’s World Cup finals on Thursday.

Following the conclusion of Tuesday’s first round of matches, Nigeria remains the only African flag-bearer yet to succumb to defeat.

Nigeria is responsible for being the true giant and beacon of hope for the African continent in Australia, with a legacy of nine-time African champions and a consistent participant in every FIFA Women’s World Cup edition.

While Morocco, Zambia, and South Africa hope to improve on their previous results, the spotlight is now on the Super Falcons to carry the torch and keep Africa’s song resounding.

Reflecting on the team’s impressive performance against Canada, Gusau encourages the girls to put their past accomplishments aside and focus on securing a triumphant victory against Australia.

The Australians may pose a formidable challenge, but with unyielding determination and an unwavering commitment to the ball, we can prevail, he said.

In other African matches, Zambia was defeated 0-5 by Japan, South Africa was defeated 1-2 by Sweden, and Morocco was defeated 0-6 by Germany.

Gusau understands the importance of the upcoming match against the co-hots and encourages the Super Falcons to play to their full potential on the field, emphasising converting chances into goals.

I am charging the girls to go all out. This is a match in which we need to score goals, the NFF boss said.

As the battle on the big stage heats up, all eyes are on the Super Falcons, who represent the hopes and dreams of millions by uniting under the banner of African pride, skill, and passion.
