  • Suspects intruded into the mother’s apartment and went away with the newborn baby
  • Police mobilized team of detectives and arrested the suspects

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two teenagers for allegedly stealing a baby girl.

The suspects, Hajara Usman (19) of Ishehi Hamlet and Ibrahim Usman ‘m’ aged 18 years of Dugurgama Hamlet, were said to have intruded into the mother’s apartment, who recently gave birth and went away with the newborn baby.

The police reportedly got wind of the abduction when one Adamu Baka (55years) of Galawa area, Akuyam district of Misau local government area reported at Akuyam outstation on Tuesday, July 23, 2023, that unknown persons intruded into his daughter’s apartment, and went away with her baby.

A statement made available to journalists by the spokesman of the Command, SP. Ahmed Mohammed Wakil on Thursday stated that, “On receipt of the report, a team of detectives were immediately mobilized and earnestly swung into action and eventually arrested the hoodlums.”

“The abducted baby was recovered from one Hajara Usman ‘f’ aged 19yrs of Ishehi Hamlet who conspired with one Ibrahim Usman ‘m’ aged 18yrs of Dugurgama Hamlet to abduct the baby.”

The statement added that the investigation is still ongoing to unravel the hidden motives behind the act while the suspects would be profiled and charged in court at the end of the investigation.

Meanwhile, the Police confirmed the death of seven persons in fresh attacks by suspected gunmen in the State.

Gunmen were said to have raided the villages of Gara and Gamji in Burra District of Ningi Local Government Area on Tuesday night.

The corpses of the victims were buried on Wednesday morning.

The Spokesman of the Command, Superintendent Ahmed Wakili described the killing as “unprovoked and mindless”.

He commiserated with the families of those who lost their lives in the attack.

“We received a distress call that some bandits had attacked Kada and Gamji villages under Burra district of Ningi LGA. They came in large numbers, shooting sporadically; as a result, seven people were killed,” he said.

Wakil, however, said the operatives of the command, with support from the Nigerian Military, engaged the bandits and neutralized three of them in the process.

He added that others scampered in disarray into the nearby bush with possible gunshot wounds.
