  • ICC assures no Goodluck Jonathan nomination for Bayelsa ministerial slot
  • Fafi defends Tinubu’s fairness; minister to be from APC contributors

The Tinubu/Shettima Independent Campaign Council (ICC) in Bayelsa State has assured members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state that former President Goodluck Jonathan will not be allowed to nominate for the yet-to-be-announced Bayelsa State ministerial slot.

The ICC stated that it was impossible for Jonathan, a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to nominate the state’s representative in President Bola Tinubu’s incoming cabinet.

The ICC’s reaction came in response to party tensions caused by reports that Jonathan was attempting to hijack the Bayelsa ministerial slot.

The report shook all APC stakeholders in the state, including members of the influential APC Elders’ Forum, who slammed the move.

In a statement issued on Sunday by its Director of Administration, Chief Joseph Fafi, the ICC urged party members who were outraged by the report to remain calm because a minister must be appointed from among those who contributed to the success of the APC during the general elections.

Fafi, who described President Tinubu as a thorough individual who rewarded loyalty, insisted that such injustice and unfairness would not be tolerated under him.

The statement reads in part:

It is inconceivable to think that Jonathan would nominate a minister from Bayelsa State. While he is an elder statesman and we accord him that regard, but as drivers of Tinubu’s presidential campaign in Bayelsa State under the leadership of Engr Preye Aganaba, we know those who supported and those who worked against Tinubu.

Labour Party Knocks Tinubu Over Ministerial List

The leadership of the Labour Party has knocked President Bola Tinubu over the first batch of ministerial nominees unveiled by the Senate on Thursday.

The LP said the ministerial nominees were an assemblage of ‘recycled, spent forces and anti-democratic elements.’

Mixed reactions have continued to trail the announcement of the nominees, with some critics expressing disappointment over the absence of the highly anticipated ‘technocrats’ in the long-awaited list.

Many young Nigerians on social media have also questioned the list, saying the politicians who made the list were merely rewarded for roles played in the last election.
