  • The Senate is expected to screen the first set of President Bola Tinubu’s ministerial nominees

The immediate past governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, is at the National Assembly for his ministerial screening.

Wike arrived at the National Assembly with his wife and some followers.

The Senate is expected to screen the first set of President Bola Tinubu’s ministerial nominees.

The chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was part of the first set of ministerial nominees Tinubu forwarded to the Senate.

During the 2023 February presidential election, Wike had turned against PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and worked for Tinubu.

It’s widely believed that Wike’s nomination was a form of compensation for supporting Tinubu.

His nomination has sparked reactions among Nigerians with many chastising him for accepting to be a minister after previously vowing not to take up any appointment in government after his tenure elapsed as governor.

Meanwhile, Chief of Staff to the President, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, has said that another list of minister-nominees will be sent to the National Assembly “in coming days” to increase the number to suit constitutional requirement.

Gbajabiamila gave the hint last week while talking to journalists at the Presidential Villa, Abuja after submitting President Bola Tinubu’s list of 28 minister-nominees to the Senate, explaining that the process of selecting suitable nominees has been thorough and careful.

The Chief of Staff, who praised the list of nominees submitted as a perfect selection of technocrats and people with political acumen, also explained the reason why the President did not attach portfolios to the names submitted.
