Tinubu travels to Cotonou for Benin Republic’s 63rd independence anniversary

He is also the Chairman of ECOWAS, which further enhances his significance at the ceremony

Today, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to participate in the 63rd independence anniversary of Benin Republic.

As the Chairman of ECOWAS, he will be the special guest of President Patrice Talon at the ceremony, as announced in a statement by his Special Adviser on Special Duties, Communication, and Strategy, Mr. Dele Alake.

President Tinubu will be accompanied by Governors Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara), Nasir Idris (Kebbi), and Mohammed Umar Bago (Niger), making the event a gathering of notable West African leaders.

“President Tinubu had first met with Talon on the sidelines of the summit on New Global Financing Pact in Paris, France; later at the 63rd ordinary session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS in Guinea-Bissau; and more recently at the State House, Abuja, along with leaders of three other West African nations, where the Benin Republic President invited him for the anniversary.

“President Tinubu had drawn the attention of the Beninese leader to the need to review and strengthen cultural, trade and economic relations between their two countries, highlighting joint border patrols by the Customs and harmoniaing regulations on the front lines,” the statement said.
