  • Victor Osimhen set to sign a new Napoli contract, with a 3-year extension, €150 million release clause, and €10 million annual salary
  • Osimhen’s crucial role, Serie A victory, and Saudi Pro League interest contribute to contract negotiations success

According to reports, a deal has been reached between Napoli and the agent of Nigeria international Victor Osimhen, with the striker set to sign a new contract with the Serie A champions.

Napoli’s head coach Rudi Garcia recently confirmed that the Nigerian would extend his stay in Naples, ending speculation about the striker’s future.

I want Osimhen to be happy. The club and the player have executed commendable efforts. He’s an essential driving force for us; we rely on his goal-scoring capabilities,” Garcia said.

Once the agreement is official, he’ll be able to focus solely on his on-field contributions, a prospect that I find preferable.

According to information published on Saturday by the Italian publication Football-Italia, the Nigerian has been offered a new three-year contract extension with a €150 million release clause and a salary of €10 million (N8.4 billion) per season.

This new contract is expected to last until June 2027, with his wages increasing to €10 million per season from €5.5 million now, including bonuses and a portion of his image rights.

According to Football-Italia, the release clause will be set at two different levels, one for clubs outside of Italy and one specifically for the Saudi Pro League, with a maximum value of €150 million.

Osimhen recently helped Napoli win the Serie A title for the first time in 33 years, becoming the first African to do so.

In addition, the striker broke a 14-year jinx by becoming the first player since Zlatan Ibrahimovic to win both the Scudetto and the Capocannoniere in the same season.

This summer, he drew interest from several clubs, including Manchester United, PSG, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Chelsea, and several Saudi Pro League teams such as Al-Hilal.

While several prominent European clubs failed in their pursuit, Al-Hilal of the Saudi Pro League appeared to be on the verge of success.

Al-Hilal made two bids for Osimhen, offering an enticing salary package that would have made him the highest-paid African footballer in history.

On the other hand, President Aurelio De Laurentiis and Osimhen were always focused on maintaining their friendship at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

The 24-year-old forward scored again in Napoli’s 2-0 win over Apollon Limassol in a recent friendly match on Friday.
