  • DPP confirms application based on investigations, informs Justice Oweibo.
  • Defense counsel Joseph Daudu argued government’s disobedience to court order prevented Emefiele bail application.

Godwin Emefiele, the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) suspended governor, is accused by the federal government of illegally possessing firearms.

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) at the Federal Ministry of Justice Mohammed Bakodo Abubakar told Justice Nicholas Oweibo that the application followed the result of further investigations.

On Tuesday, the federal government made an oral application to drop the charge before the federal high court in Ikoyi.

On July 25, Emefiele was arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on “illegal possession” of firearms at a federal high court in Ikoyi.
