35-year-old Jigawa man commits suicide amid hardship

In Jigawa state, one Samaila Ilu has taken his own life amid recent increase in hardship nationwide.

Police spokesman DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam confirmed the incident, he disclosed that the deceased hanged himself to death.

He said the incident happened on Thursday. The victim, 35, hailed from Dungun Tantama village in Hausa local government area of the state.

According to him, “On 17/08/2023 at about 1100hrs, police received a report that a 35-year-old man Samaila Ilu of Dungun Tantama village, Hausa local government, left his house on 16/08/2023 to an unknown destination.”

He said later his body was found hanging on a tree with a rope, presuming he had committed suicide.

Shiisu said a team of policemen removed the corpse and conveyed him to the hospital for autopsy.

He said it has since been released to his relatives for burial.

Nigerians have been grappling with unprecedented hardship since the removal of fuel subsidy in May. The galloping inflation further makes the economic hardship unbearable for many citizens.

The federal and state government have promised to roll out palliatives for the struggling citizens who are seriously groaning under the biting economics hardship but such a promise is yet to be fulfiled.
