  • Mrs. Ajiboye was kidnapped from her shop in Elerinjare community, Kwara State, by armed individuals
  • She was released after payment of N1 million ransom and provision of requested items

The abductors of Mrs. Bola Ajiboye, the spouse of Pastor Johnson Ajiboye from the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Kwara State, have taken into custody the individual who was dispatched to hand over the ransom following Mrs. Ajiboye’s release.

Mrs. Ajiboye was abducted in her shop in the Elerinjare community within Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State. The incident occurred last Thursday night when bandits entered the town.

As reported by Punch, sources have revealed that Mrs. Ajiboye was freed by her captors on Wednesday after a payment of N1 million ransom was made, along with the provision of foodstuffs and other requested items.

However, an elder from the community stated that the man, who was in his middle age, tasked with delivering the ransom to the abductors, was apprehended subsequent to delivering the ransom.

The elder explained that the kidnappers had been in touch with the community, stipulating that a sum of N5 million ransom needed to be paid before the messenger of the initial ransom would be released. The elder conveyed that the Elerinjare community was experiencing sadness due to the distressing reports originating from their town. The recent kidnapping has instilled fear among the residents.

“Elerinjare is a journey of 45 minutes to Ilorin, I have been invited to attend a meeting at home on how we are going to raise money for the release of the man who went to deliver the ransom for the release of Pastor’s wife. But I have the fear of how to get to the town”, he told.

“The kidnappers are demanding a sum of N5 million as ransom from the community, how do we raise such an amount now?” he exclaimed.

He said that Mrs Ajiboye had been relocated to a private facility in the community ‘to take a rest’.

He mentioned that the individual tasked with delivering the ransom and the additional items was, however, apprehended by the abductors.

Mrs. Ajiboye was abducted around 9 pm last Thursday in Elerinjare village, situated near Idofian town within the Ifelodun Local Council area of Kwara State.

During the incident at her residence, one of her daughters managed to escape miraculously amid the exchange of sporadic gunshots, while a man reportedly suffered a gunshot wound inflicted by the kidnappers.

Upon reaching out, the spokesperson for the state police command, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, stated that he had not yet been briefed on the current situation.
